Shazia and Hassan: Winter Fairytale

Guests arrived to blue skies and a blanket of snow on the grounds. It’s hard to believe that this magical wedding was planned in just nine weeks - it really was a winter wonderland…

Why Hedsor?

We chose Hedsor House as we wanted an intimate wedding with our immediate family and close friends. Hedsor House was perfect for this as it allowed for an intimate wedding with an informal touch.

What was the theme of the day?

Our theme was “classic elegance’. I absolutely adore the colour pink so I knew I wanted the décor to have a soft romantic feel. We had glass lanterns with candles leading to the main entrance and our civil ceremony had a walkway with beautiful soft pastel flower arrangements. Our civil ceremony took place under a cherry blossom tree while a violinist played our favourite song (Kissing you by Des’ree) as I walked down the aisle.

I can still remember how my husband looked at me as I walked down the aisle and that is my favourite memory.

Details

The dress: I always knew what kind of dress I would like for my wedding. My first dress was an ivory mermaid style dress, with lots of tulle and sparkles on the bodice. I also wore a two piece veil which my husband forgot to lift and I had to remind him at the start of our ceremony!

My second wedding dress was made to measure and designed by me. It was a rose peplum top, adorned with gold beading on long netted sleeves and a magenta coloured pearl embellished A-line skirt with a train. When I was in the process of designing my second outfit, I was told by the designer that the colours I had picked would not compliment each other and to choose a more neutral tone. However, I wanted something unique and stuck to my colour scheme and it really paid off as the colours looked wonderful together. Due to the short time scale, I only received the second wedding dress a week before my wedding. Luckily, it was a perfect fit!

Our wedding embraced so many cultures, my husband’s father is Egyptian and his mother is English. I am Pakistani so we ensured the wedding was a celebration of all these different elements.

The Tux: Hassan wore a crushed velvet Hugo Boss jacket, limited edition maroon Thomas Pink bow tie + cumber band, white tux shirt and black tux trousers.

The Flower girls:

Our three flower girls did a wonderful reading by Winnie the Pooh by A.A Milne which reads as follows:

“If I live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day so I never have to live without you. Piglet sidled up to Pooh from behind. 'Pooh?' he whispered. 'Yes, Piglet?'

'Nothing,' said Piglet, taking Pooh’s hand. 'I just wanted to be sure of you.'

'We’ll be Friends Forever, won’t we, Pooh?' asked Piglet.

'Even longer,' Pooh answered. 'If ever there is tomorrow when we’re not together...there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we’re apart… I’ll always be with you.'"

My three nieces were the ring bearers, all working in unison to deliver the ring on a pillow which they jointly carried. They did a terrific job right until they reached us, at which point they dropped the ring.  It was all as amusing as it was heart warmingly cute.

Did you face any challenges during planning?

We planned our wedding in nine weeks which was extremely stressful but worth it. I probably wouldn’t advise this but I work well under pressure although in hindsight, I must have been in auto-pilot to get everything done in time!

It snowed a day before our big day and so I was in a huge panic as to how our guests would get to the venue, as they were travelling from all over the country, including abroad! However, the staff at Hedsor were so wonderful and made sure all paths at HH had been gritted and cleared of snow. Our wedding day was wonderful as we still had snow on the grounds but with beautiful sunshine, which made for stunning photos.
