Rachel and Graham: Love at First Sight

The most elegant day that left guests in awe even a month after the wedding. Rachel and Graham wanted to incorporate history inside and out and make it a day no one would forget, and this they did.

The Ceremony

We had our ceremony at St Nicolas Church in Taplow which was my childhood Church. It was beautiful but a blur, but I also remember thinking "please let the ring fit."

Why Hedsor?

“Hedsor House speaks for itself, it is absolutely stunning in every way. No matter what the weather would be we knew our guests would love the elegance and history inside and out.”
— Rachel & Graham

Graham and I went to view other venues however they just didn't compare.

My Dad came with me to view one of the other venues but on the way home we pulled into the Hedsor driveway.  We phoned and asked for a viewing right away and luckily we were squeezed in. The minute we walked in we knew it was it and my Dad leaned over and said "this is where you are having your wedding". It was sorted there and then.

Details of the Day

The Dresses: My Dress was by Stella York from Pure Couture which was the perfect style for me and fitted like a glove. It was a lace, traditional dress and you know when you feel beautiful because all you want to do is swish in it, I loved it.

Pure Couture also made me a matching lace jacket to cover my arms which was just stunning and my veil was sparkly and from Saphire in Wooburn Green who also hand made my Mum's and my Mother in Laws fascinators.

The Flowers

We had flowers from Hot Flowers in Wooburn Green and Suzanne was amazing in discussing through our options and on the day she gave us exactly what I had envisioned and more. I think its fair to say there were a few "ooooohhhhs" as our guests walked into our wedding breakfast.

“Our little two and a half year old Flower girl believed she was a princess for the day in a castle was the sweetest thing.”
— Rachel

The Transport

Our transport was certainly heard before it was seen! We arrived in a brand new Maserati which all the men loved taking pictures of outside the house. I was just happy to get in and out easily in my dress. It was also good because our chauffeurs who provided the cars were also part of our wedding party and very good friends so everything was kept light hearted and fun.

The Entertainment

“Our guests were trying to re enact scenes from Dirty Dancing on the dance floor. We had a few people flying literally onto the floor.”
— Rachel

Our Entertainment was from Eight Ray Music a band called the Revue who were excellent and kept everyone dancing all night. But our sparkly diamond dance floor also helped from Class Act who also lit up Hedsor House and the grounds in beautiful different colours which we had a few comments made of how stunning it was.

The Fireworks

A special mention had to go to Pyromania for the best fireworks we have ever seen and were still receiving comments two weeks later of how good they were.

The Menu by Caper & Berry

Starter - Prawn Cocktail

Main - South American Lamb and Chicken Sharing Boards with Salad and Potatoes.

Dessert - Shots in Pots- Chocolate Brownie with Salt Caramel and Honeycomb, Lemon Posset and a Chocolate and Cherry Cheesecake.

The Photographer: Nigel Chapman could not have done a better job capturing the day, go to the gallery below to judge for yourself!

Your Best Memory From the Day?

Standing out on the lawn watching the spectacular fireworks with my new Husband and all of our family and friends. You know when you have a moment of pure happiness... it even brought tears to our eyes.

Rachel and David: An American Dream

Rachel and David planned their entire wedding from ‘across the pond,’ though you wouldn’t have been able to tell they’d only visited Hedsor once or twice before their big day!

Their special day was flawlessly coordinated, and Hedsor was described by Rachel as “the perfect setting for the wedding of our dreams.” High praise indeed!

We spoke to Rachel to find out more about their special Jewish wedding and what Hedsor House means to them…

Why Hedsor?

"We always knew that we wanted to hold our wedding in a grand house; half of our guests were travelling to the UK from America, so the traditional features of Hedsor House made it the perfect backdrop to our day! My Mum told me about Hedsor years ago as she’d seen it in the film ‘Quartet’ and knew immediately that it would be the most perfect wedding venue for us. Fast forward to us being engaged; we visited Hedsor and knew immediately that it was the venue for us, absolutely stunning and the staff were so wonderful.

Details of the Day

Our wedding day was absolutely magical and the magic was made possible by holding it at the most exquisite venue – Hedsor House!
— Rachel (Bride)

There were many small details that were very important to us, such as the invitations and wedding favours designed and made by myself and my Mum. The colour scheme was purple - including my bouquet, bridesmaid dresses, groomsmen bow ties and lighting in the room.

The House: There were so many elements that we just loved. The Sunken Garden was beautiful (even in winter) and we knew that’s where we would hold our cocktail hour. The Bridal Suite was gorgeous, definitely the perfect setting for the Bridal Party to get ready in the morning. The Centre Hall with the beautiful domed ceiling… WOW!

The Dress: My dress was by Maggie Sottero, covered in intricate lace and beading. When I found the dress I knew it was ‘the one’… It was everything I could have dreamed of with the scalloped edge, capped sleeves and sweetheart neckline. When I found it we already knew that Hedsor House was our venue and that the dress would fit the elegance of the venue just perfectly!

The Ceremony: It was very important that we could have a traditional Jewish Orthodox ceremony under a beautiful chuppah (wedding canopy) and ours was adorned with gorgeous purple and ivory cascading orchids. It was covered with the tallit (prayer shawls) of our grandfathers, a wonderful tradition within David’s family to honour those who have passed.

Though it was traditional, our ceremony had a modern twist. Our Rabbi sang many songs during the ceremony which included a beautiful rendition of Lecha Dodi (Come My Beloved) to All of Me by John Legend as I was escorted to the chuppah. Surrounding us was a sea of purple lighting and all our closest family and friends.

The Flowers: We used the exquisite Ruby and Grace who were so gracious in accepting the challenge of finding flowers that worked with our purple colour scheme. We gave them a small swatch of fabric from the bridesmaid dresses and Hannah told me that she always had it on her!

The Food and Drink: Philip Small, a specialist Jewish caterer, was absolutely amazing! Our starter was a duck salad and when we were walking around to greet our guests we knew it was a hit – everyone’s plates were empty! For dessert we enjoyed 4 miniature ‘shot’ desserts - chocolate mousse, berry compote with meringue, sticky toffee pudding and my favourite – vanilla ice cream with ginger stem.

The Cake: The cake was made by Philip Small’s wonderful pastry chef who made an exact replica of a cake I’d found on Pinterest – a three tier ivory cake covered in purple filigree. Each tier of our cake was a different flavour – red velvet on the bottom, chocolate sponge in the middle and lemon on top – delicious!

The Photographer: Our photographer was the brilliant Mike Garrard. We were both very sure we wanted a photojournalism style; when we discovered Mike we knew that his style and the vibrancy of his pictures would capture the essence of our day. He certainly did!

The Videographer: Looking at Hang The Moon’s website I was hooked, his style was everything I could have dreamed of. The trailer and film is fantastic, we’ve watched it more times than we can count!

Rachel and Will: Romance and Revelry

For centuries, Hedsor House has been a place to gather, celebrate and entertain. So it was only right that Rachel and Will’s romantic wedding included so much to entertain and amuse their 140 guests.

An electrifying string quartet on the lawns, a live party band playing soul and disco, topped off by midnight hot chocolate and marshmallows on the lawns; it was a blast!

Rachel shared with us some more details of their special day at Hedsor.

Why Hedsor House?

“We wanted somewhere quite local and where both the ceremony and the reception could take place, but we didn’t want to get married in a hotel. We were also looking for somewhere that offered exclusivity, privacy and intimacy. We weren’t previously aware of Hedsor House, but discovered a hidden gem! It’s accessed by a one kilometre driveway and surrounded by almost 100 acres of glorious parkland, so it’s extremely private.

Details of the Day

We were looking for somewhere that offered a blank canvas so we could choose the exact suppliers to make and transform it into our own special day. Hedsor really was the perfect venue for creating the most magical day!
— Rachel

The Style: Our day followed a contemporary champagne and nude theme that featured beautiful stationery, crisp linens, delicate cutlery as well as incredible floral arches. We were helped by Melanie from Cranberry Blue Weddings & Events who planned our day from start to finish. She could see our vision straight away, and helped to create an elegant and wonderful day that we will remember forever.

The Ceremony: One of Hedsor’s best features is its spectacular domed Centre Hall where our wedding ceremony took place. During the romantic service, our Buckinghamshire-based registrar provided some lovely information on the house’s quintessentially English history and two close friends gave a couple of beautiful readings.

The Reception: Having the perfect venue was our top priority, followed by wanting to provide great food and entertainment for our guests. We took time to choose our caterer, Melissa Webb, one of Hedsor House’s preferred caterers. We spent a lot of time selecting our caterer and deciding on our perfect menu, which included delicious cocktails, tender fillet of beef and an amazing salted caramel mousse.

The Entertainment: It was really important to us that our guests were kept amused, so we went all out on the entertainment. We had two magicians, a silhouette artist, a DJ and London-based party band Bellissima who kept the crowds dancing with pop and soul classics. We also loved having Stringfever, a crazy electrifying, comedy string group show. Hard to describe but really entertaining! And with all that dancing, it was only right that we supplied white dancing flip flops for ladies who wanted to kick off their high heels! For our send off just before midnight, we handed out sparklers and hot chocolate with marshmallows. A sweet end to the perfect day!

We feel that Hedsor House is the perfect wedding venue for you to create something really unique. I’d recommend hiring Cranberry Blue Weddings & Events – they’re amazing and really made our day what it was! Do make sure you spend time getting the food and the menu right, and if you can afford it, try and hire a videographer as it really brings the wedding day to life.

Rachel and Rob: Country House Elegance

Hedsor House is the ultimate backdrop for a beautiful country house wedding, and we simply adored Rachel and Rob’s elegant day.

When it came to planning our wedding, we shied away from having a theme as such; Hedsor House is so beautiful that instead we tried to create a feeling of ‘timeless elegance’ throughout the whole day.
— Rachel

From delicate floristry in soft, pastel shades to the graceful string quartet accompanying the ceremony, Rachel and Rob paid attention to the tiniest of details. We hope you’ll agree they created a simply incredible wedding here at Hedsor House.

Here's more about their day at Hedsor, their inspiration and their lasting memories.

"There was no specific colour scheme, but rather everything - from the handmade invitations to the accent colours in the outfits and decoration - were neutral, pastel shades which mirrored the beautiful Georgian-style decor of the house as well as the spring flowers in the stunning grounds.

Our day had quite a traditional feel initially; we had a string quartet for the ceremony music and the groomsmen were in tails, but later on things became more relaxed as we wanted everyone to let their hair down for the reception! After the wedding breakfast we had cocktails in the Sunken Garden and then everyone joined us back in the Centre Hall to dance the night away!

Why Hedsor House?

“We didn't plan to get married in a church so the main criteria for our venue was a beautiful ceremony room where I could imagine myself walking down the aisle... This turned out to be a tall order! After a weekend looking at venues without much success, we arrived at Hedsor House and both knew immediately it would be the perfect setting for our day.

Whilst initially a little apprehensive of the 'blank canvas' approach, we soon realised this presented a fantastic opportunity to plan our perfect wedding. The versatility and flexibility of the house and the accommodating approach of the entire Hedsor team meant that we felt completely at ease throughout the planning process.

Details of the Day

The Food: We chose Caper & Berry, one of Hedsor’s preferred suppliers. It was really important to us that the food was of a high standard and they really delivered on this with a seasonal menu. Their event manager ensured the entire day went to plan, and it was down to them that everything flowed perfectly from start to finish.

The Dress: I wore a dress by British designer Augusta Jones. Initially I thought I would quite like a rather full dress with a long train, but when it came down to it, that sort of style just didn’t suit me. When I saw my dress, I fell in love with its clean, elegant lines and simple design, as well as the luxurious feel of the lace. It also went perfectly with my veil, which my Grandmother lent me to wear on the day; a 60-year old cathedral length, pure silk veil edged with delicate Chantilly lace.

The Flowers: Seventh Heaven provided our flowers, which were seasonal blooms (peonies, roses, gypsophila) in shades of cream and ivory, which we teamed with antique silver candelabras for our centrepieces. We also had two large pedestal arrangements at the entrance to the Centre Hall.

The Photographer: As soon as we saw Mike Garrard’s work it was an easy decision to choose him as our photographer. His pictures are beautiful and really captured the essence of our day; his unique and original style was just what we were looking for.

Your wedding day really is the best day of your life and we would recommend all engaged couples to really make the most of the excitement and anticipation in the run up to the main event; it is a very special time, so just enjoy it!

Vanessa and Kalpesh: Stylish Cultural Fusion

When Vanessa and Kalpesh decided on Hedsor as a wedding venue, they were taken in by the glorious views and the privacy of the estate.

Their wedding was a superb fusion of English traditions and colourful Indian culture, with afternoon tea and an Indian-inspired floral displays. And the wedding featured a fair amount of something both cultures enjoy: dancing ‘til the early hours!

We spoke to Vanessa and Kal to find out more about their special day at Hedsor.

One of the most important things about our wedding day was bringing our two cultures together in our union – I have British heritage and Kal has a British Indian heritage. Many mixed marriages that we had come across had two separate days and we were keen to try and have one day that represented us coming together – this was a tall order as it meant that we would have a jam-packed day with two ceremonies... On the plus side it meant two outfits each!”
— Vanessa

Why Hedsor House?

“When we drove up the long driveway of Hedsor House we were totally blown away. As we looked around the beautiful interior we could really see how we could make our day come to life there – all in one venue. This was not something we had found at other venues where there would be logistical challenges or the layout of the venue would not allow our day to flow smoothly.  What completely sold it for us was the absolutely beautiful Bridal Suite; it is such a beautiful and peaceful space to get ready in. And walking down the gorgeous spiral staircase to your ceremony in the magnificent domed Centre Hall is just so special."

Details of the Day

The Flowers: The flowers were from Hot Flowers and Art, and surpassed all of our expectations. They were a beautiful vibrant hue of autumnal colours. When the bouquets were delivered to the Bridal Suite, it was a perfect moment. I was so pleased, and it really felt like all our plans were coming together!

Get married at Hedsor House! You will not regret it. And for brides – definitely use the lovely Bridal Suite to get ready!
— Vanessa and Kal

The Ceremony: To achieve our goal of representing both of our cultures, we had two ceremonies: a traditional civil ceremony for 80 guests followed by afternoon tea in the Drawing Room, and a Hindu ceremony for 130 guests with a stunning flower-framed Mandap.  We had both ceremonies in the Centre Hall, but both looked completely different. This showed the versatility of Hedsor that we could have two diverse ceremonies in less than four hours! We changed the layout of the room so guests faced the other way for the Hindu ceremony – it was full to the rafters with a really different feeling.  After the Hindu ceremony, our guests enjoyed a Prosecco-fuelled reception while we took a welcome and relaxing break by having our photos taken in the grounds of Hedsor House – all credit to our photographer Tony Hart for making this part of the day special and relaxing.

The Entertainment: Topping off the day of the union of our two cultures was our first dance, which was a traditional ballroom dance topped off by busting into some Bollywood moves! The dance was not at all well-polished by us, but we wanted to create a fun atmosphere for the ensuing disco, which we are told that we did!   We kept the entertainment simple with a DJ, Chintz Garcha from Showcase Weddings. Something our guests (and we!) loved was the sparkly dancefloor that we got to party the night away on. It was perfect to be able to celebrate in style in the same Centre Hall that we had conducted our two ceremonies in earlier in the day. Chintz was great at banging out the tunes that kept a real party atmosphere and a full dancefloor until the very last song! A perfect end to a perfect day.

Sarah and Matt: Pearls and Lace

Sarah and Matt’s wedding was full of romantic flowers, delicate lace and all things gorgeous.

But more than that: there were plenty of elements to surprise and delight guests, from jugglers to string quartets and a life-sized escort tree (more on that later!) Most of all we loved how this couple really made the most of the different spaces at Hedsor House - we were amazed with what they did with the Centre Hall!

We spoke to Sarah and Matt about why they chose Hedsor, and if they feel they achieved their dream of having the perfect wedding day.

It was an incredibly intimate day and captured the romance perfectly. Hedsor is such a thought-provoking and inspiring venue, and the warm and attentive staff are a true delight. We couldn’t have asked for a better day!
— Sarah

Why Hedsor?

Hedsor is a perfect wedding venue, a place of wonder and imagination. The location is stunning, we love the manicured grounds and the Highland Cows! It is a beautiful period venue that has lots of character and impact, and so we just knew immediately it was the venue for us – it felt totally perfect. We love the décor inside the house, the Centre Hall’s domed ceiling and columns and the stillness and beauty of the panelled Ballroom, with its stunning windows and great views out to the grounds.

Details of the Day

The Style: We wanted a luxurious, chic, romantic feel with lots of flowers and pretty details, we had lots of pearls and touches of lace. I originally wanted an ‘organic’ style, which developed as we went along but it did feature a life size escort tree which was a real statement and talking point. I have to say our fabulous wedding planner Melanie Helen of Cranberry Blue made all of the magic come together!

Make sure you have some of your wedding cake, and don’t let expensive flowers go to waste – donate to family and friends!
— Sarah

The Ceremony: Our ceremony was truly magical, and everything we had ever dreamt about. Our Harpist Rebeca Jones played and I walked down the aisle to David Bowie’s ‘Labyrinth’ soundtrack song, ‘As the World Falls Down’. The flowers by Mary Jane Vaughan were truly astounding. They were a real floral feast for the eyes!

The Food and Drink: Our food was lovingly prepared by Rocket, and I genuinely think that most guests thought they were in a Michelin starred restaurant! They are extremely professional as a caterer, and really did go that extra mile.

The Cake: We had a Rosalind Miller Cake which was gorgeous. We chose different flavoured sponge throughout its tiers, including rose, lavender and lemon in line with our botanical, natural theme.

The Photographs: Pippa Mackenzie was discreet and very graceful. As soon as we met her it felt like we had known her forever! As a very experienced photographer she captured every special moment from our day with unique creativity.
