Emma and Matt: Purple Pageantry

EMMA'S AND MATT'S PURPLE PAGEANT

A day of vibrant colours, exclusive surroundings and seamless planning bought together a fabulous day for Emma, Matt and their guests at Hedsor House. Just scroll through the photos of their spectacular day by the talented Pippa Mackenzie to get a sense of the purple pageantry...

We were lucky enough for Emma and Matt to share details of their soulful wedding with us...

Why Hedsor?

What I remember most about the day is how wonderful the room we ate in looked
— Matt

"We had always wanted a beautiful grand house, long drive way leading up to it with lovely surroundings and Hedsor House was all that with a magical feel to it". Hedsor gave us the opportunity to use both the stunning garden views on the south lawn for our drinks reception and canapés then moved into the magnificent ballroom for the meal.

Details of the Day

There were many small details that were very important to the couple, such as the invitations and wedding favours designed and made by Emma and her Mum. The colour scheme was vibrant purple - including the bouquet, bridesmaid dresses, grooms men bow ties and lighting in the room.

The most important thing to me was the drive up; you see all the lovely flowers and the cows!
— Emma

The House: We both loved how the long drive to Hedsor House built up the suspense and Hedsor definitely doesn't disappoint once you finally see it. The surroundings of the venue were very important to both of us, as we wanted to have our canapés and drinks reception outside. Hedsor House  had a magical feel to it that we knew our guests would remember.

The Dresses: My gorgeous dress was from Windsor and Eton Brides, it was a strapless ivory dress with diamonds threaded throughout. Instead of a veil I opted for a sparkly headpiece that matched perfectly with my dress.  To match the bright inviting theme I chose floor length 'Cadburys' purple dresses for my bridesmaids and my maid of honour wore a gorgeous headpiece to stand out from the others.

The Ceremony: The ceremony was beautiful, I remember smiling the whole way through. We had a civil ceremony in the Centre Hall, then celebrated outside on the South Lawns with umbrellas and outdoor furniture (luckily the weather was perfect).

The Flowers: This was the first element of our wedding that I organised with our planner Georgia from Rhubarb catering. Flowers were (of course) purple, with threads of pink, the colours were very bright which bought a sense of fun and excitement into the atmosphere. Philippa Craddock bought together the purple theme throughout and we absolutely loved them!

The Food and Drink: The superstars of the day had to be our caterers Rhubarb, we were lucky enough to have the help of Georgia Attwood who planned our day to perfection. Food, styling, planning  and preparations leading up to our big day helped us both feel excited rather than nervous.

The Photographer: The photos below explain it all, we are so happy and proud to share with you - our special thanks to Pippa Mackenzie. As the saying says 'a picture speaks a thousand words' so we will just let you just look through them.

The Entertainment: We couldn't recommend 'The Wandering Hands'   enough, they were amazing! They sang while we were having our canapés outside and did our first dance song which was such a memorable and special moment for us.

"You want people to remember your venue and with Hedsor you definitely achieve this!" - Matt

Rachel and Will: Romance and Revelry

For centuries, Hedsor House has been a place to gather, celebrate and entertain. So it was only right that Rachel and Will’s romantic wedding included so much to entertain and amuse their 140 guests.

An electrifying string quartet on the lawns, a live party band playing soul and disco, topped off by midnight hot chocolate and marshmallows on the lawns; it was a blast!

Rachel shared with us some more details of their special day at Hedsor.

Why Hedsor House?

“We wanted somewhere quite local and where both the ceremony and the reception could take place, but we didn’t want to get married in a hotel. We were also looking for somewhere that offered exclusivity, privacy and intimacy. We weren’t previously aware of Hedsor House, but discovered a hidden gem! It’s accessed by a one kilometre driveway and surrounded by almost 100 acres of glorious parkland, so it’s extremely private.

Details of the Day

We were looking for somewhere that offered a blank canvas so we could choose the exact suppliers to make and transform it into our own special day. Hedsor really was the perfect venue for creating the most magical day!
— Rachel

The Style: Our day followed a contemporary champagne and nude theme that featured beautiful stationery, crisp linens, delicate cutlery as well as incredible floral arches. We were helped by Melanie from Cranberry Blue Weddings & Events who planned our day from start to finish. She could see our vision straight away, and helped to create an elegant and wonderful day that we will remember forever.

The Ceremony: One of Hedsor’s best features is its spectacular domed Centre Hall where our wedding ceremony took place. During the romantic service, our Buckinghamshire-based registrar provided some lovely information on the house’s quintessentially English history and two close friends gave a couple of beautiful readings.

The Reception: Having the perfect venue was our top priority, followed by wanting to provide great food and entertainment for our guests. We took time to choose our caterer, Melissa Webb, one of Hedsor House’s preferred caterers. We spent a lot of time selecting our caterer and deciding on our perfect menu, which included delicious cocktails, tender fillet of beef and an amazing salted caramel mousse.

The Entertainment: It was really important to us that our guests were kept amused, so we went all out on the entertainment. We had two magicians, a silhouette artist, a DJ and London-based party band Bellissima who kept the crowds dancing with pop and soul classics. We also loved having Stringfever, a crazy electrifying, comedy string group show. Hard to describe but really entertaining! And with all that dancing, it was only right that we supplied white dancing flip flops for ladies who wanted to kick off their high heels! For our send off just before midnight, we handed out sparklers and hot chocolate with marshmallows. A sweet end to the perfect day!

We feel that Hedsor House is the perfect wedding venue for you to create something really unique. I’d recommend hiring Cranberry Blue Weddings & Events – they’re amazing and really made our day what it was! Do make sure you spend time getting the food and the menu right, and if you can afford it, try and hire a videographer as it really brings the wedding day to life.

Emily and Dan: Music and Merriment

Emily and Dan seamlessly blended traditional elements of their Jewish heritage with an incredible flashmob and party atmosphere at Hedsor.

Their day was characterised by a number of surprises, mostly revolving around music which is a passion of theirs - in fact they met when they were in a musical at university and Emily now runs a choir that Dan is a member of.

We spoke to Emily and Dan to find out more about their wedding and the reunion of boyband Blueprint for one night only...

Why Hedsor?

We loved that we could have a little piece of the countryside all to ourselves and still be within close reach of London.
— Emily

"We fell in love with Hedsor House the moment we saw it. With stunning views, plenty of space and timeless beauty, we loved that we could have a little piece of the countryside all to ourselves and still be within close reach of London.

We had always hoped for an outdoor wedding, especially given the stunning gardens and view at Hedsor. But when it rained on our wedding day, the beautiful Centre Hall was the best plan B we could have hoped for, and the numerous spaces inside the house meant there was plenty of room for our guests to spread out and explore.

Choosing Hedsor was the best decision we made, and we have been showered with compliments about the venue ever since!

Details of the Day

The Ceremony: We had a modern Jewish ceremony, updated with the help of our Rabbi to include lots of beautiful traditions that we personalised to make sure it reflected our values. Emily was sung down the aisle by a friend of ours, and our Rabbi brought along a guitar for added music, with a performance of our favourite song, alongside a reading of some of our favourite lyrics from other close friends.

We chose a simple chuppah (Jewish wedding canopy) and were surrounded by our family and loved ones. As a twist on the traditional Jewish breaking of the glass, usually done only by the groom, Emily also stamped on a glass!

Pick great suppliers. If you know you have the best people on the job, you’ll be able to relax on the day.
— Emily

The Food: Caper and Berry were incredible caterers, providing flawless event management on the day too. From the canapes, tweaked to suit our palates, to the bespoke fish-based three course menu and show-stopping ‘shots and pots’ we couldn’t have asked for more. The evening cocktails, flavoured popcorn, cheese board and salt beef sandwiches went down a treat and we’d recommend them to anyone!

The Cake: Emily’s mum was keen to design the cake, and made hundreds of sugar hydrangeas which cascaded over layers of chocolate, vanilla and fruit cake.

The Photographer: Simon Atkins ticked all our boxes, having photographed Jewish weddings and ceremonies at Hedsor. With a photojournalist style, we knew Simon would capture our day without us awkwardly posing. We hardly noticed he was there, and we were so pleased with the way he captured the emotion, atmosphere and love of the day.

The Entertainment: We chose Totem as our band for the day - a brilliant decision! Musicians played during the ceremony, signing of the register, reception, dinner and several awesome sets in the evening! Daniel’s brother Michael performed our first dance - an amazing acoustic rendition of ‘500 Miles’ on guitar. We soon had everyone dancing with us!

Our reception kicked off with some traditional Israeli dancing, which saw us thrown into the air on chairs, and huge circles of dancing with our friends and family! From then, three singers and a band plus live DJ kept the dance floor full all night. As well as some beautiful performances by friends during our ceremony, we decided to add in a few surprises for our guests! Immediately after cutting the cake, we both broke into song, soon joined by 25 of our singing friends in a flashmob song and dance routine we’d put together.

Later in the evening Blueprint, Daniel’s boyband from his university years, re-formed for a short set - all of this we’d kept even from our parents! Singing ‘Love Me For a Reason’ with all our guests is something we’ll never forget! We ended the night with a sparkler exit, lit up by the faces of our nearest and dearest!

Andrew and Richard: Midsummer Day’s Celebration

We are proud that Hedsor House is a true blank canvas; whatever your dream celebration, we can most likely help you to make it happen!

So when Andrew and Richard came to us with their incredible ideas for a special midsummer marriage here at Hedsor, we were so excited to see how they would transform our beautiful spaces to achieve their grand designs.

We spoke to Andrew and Richard to hear more about their day and how they wove the concept of ‘sprezzatura’ into their special celebration…

It has been a delight having the freedom to create a spectacular ‘reconstructed’ marriage ceremony in the total privacy of this stunning Georgian mansion and gardens.
— Andrew

Why Hedsor House?

"Location, location, location. The house has spectacular rooms, wonderful gardens, privacy and we loved that it is exclusive use. The only guests at the house are your own wedding guests.  We were allowed the flexibility of all reasonable requests to create an extraordinary and entrancing day of entertainments.

Details of the Day

The Theme: We wanted our day to be absolutely flawless but also feel relaxed and inclusive. So we focused on the concept of ‘sprezzatura’, an Italian word that reflects ‘the art of studied nonchalance’… It means to conduct something perfectly but without apparent effort. Based on comments from our guests, we certainly feel as though we achieved this!

The Suits: We had Nehru under-suits of ivory trimmed with gold. We also had handcrafted jackets for the grooms and pageboy, each in separate colours of Duppion silk made in India. This was overlaid with gold arabesque designs that were made exclusively for us!

The Flowers: We went for summer floristry at its more opulent, though we also wanted it to look like a fresh herbaceous border brought indoors. This reflected the sprezzatura concept we were going for.

The Ceremony: We deconstructed the marriage ceremony, then ‘reconstructed’ it to incorporate elements relevant to us – from neopagan hand-fasting to international speakers on LGBT battles past and forward.  For example, we had a speech from the former Health Minister who championed Civil Partnership in Parliament.

We have been very touched by so many guests saying it is the best wedding day they have ever been to!
— Andrew

The Reception: We had an added surprise for our guests in line with the concept of a Midsummer Day’s Dream; a film production company set up a full-blown snow scene in the oak-panelled Ballroom. Snow falling in the middle of summer was an incredibly atmospheric addition!

The Food and Drink: Our caterers, Create Food, were wonderful. They created two dishes to our exact specification that we had designed to remind us of holidays. One included succulent pink duck breasts that everybody commented on!

The Entertainment: Entertainment was high on our agenda. Two very prominent stars of the West End performed in the Centre Hall, and the London Gay Men’s Chorus Ensemble entertained our guests in the Sunken Garden. This was alongside international tenor Harry Nicoll and the Aurai Trio.

The Photography: One of our guests is an internationally renowned cameraman, and our official photographer is a rising star. Both were asked to take informal and non-posed photos. However, our posed shot with all the guests in the stunning Sunken Garden from the upper balcony? Spectacular!

Plan every last detail and ensure performers know what they are doing – rehearse! Also make sure the guests have a clear vision of what is expected of them by putting timings in the Order of Service – everyone can prepare themselves, and therefore relax!

Krishna and Kunal: Royal Indian Extravaganza

Hedsor has become one of the most perfect backdrops to some truly stunning Asian weddings.

The heritage features of the main house and rolling lawns of our 100 acre estate blend seamlessly with all of the bright and vibrant elements of a beautiful Asian wedding. One of our favourite Asian weddings was that of Krishna and Kunal. With a civil ceremony in July, followed by a multiple day marquee extravaganza in August, the couple made the very most of everything on offer at Hedsor House.

To put it simply, Hedsor has everything that any couple require for a dream wedding!
— Krishna

Since many Indian weddings are simply incomplete without dance and music, Hedsor’s legacy of celebration and entertainment set us up well for this special event. From a Bollywood performance to an incredible DJ set, this wedding had it all! It is a beautiful example of how the house and grounds can be used for multiple day ceremonies, including pre-wedding ceremonies.

We spoke to Krishna and Kunal to learn more about their stunning Asian wedding at Bride Magazine’s Number One wedding venue in Buckinghamshire.

Why Hedsor House?

For a start, the long driveway is just beautiful. When we arrived at the house, we felt that Hedsor was very grand. It is so regal and therefore very appropriate for the ‘Royal Indian’ theme we had chosen.

It was important for us that the venue we chose could cater to the number of guests we wanted and the various elements of our Asian wedding. With a grand marquee on the lawns and the different rooms in the house, Hedsor fitted our requirements.

We also liked working with the team; Mark and his staff made each of us feel very homely for the 3 days we were there at the house.

Details of the Day

The Theme: It was important to us that our wedding reflected our Indian heritage, and so we took a long time developing elements of a ‘Royal Indian’ theme with a modern twist. From our glittering gold and cream mandap to traditional Bollywood dancing, we felt like we really blended our cultures with some more contemporary elements against the backdrop of Hedsor House.

The Ceremonies & Receptions: We had two ceremonies; a civil ceremony in July at the house, and then a multiple day extravaganza in August with an 800 person marquee on the lawns. After our two ceremonies, we also had two receptions - both were very different styles but equally enjoyable! One of our receptions included a traditional mehendi (henna) night, one of the many important traditions for Indian marriages.

We made sure we used all of the spaces on offer at Hedsor House, including the lawns to land the helicopter as Kunal arrived! Getting ready in the Bridal Suite was lovely as it was so light and airy. We particularly loved using the flower-filled Sunken Garden as part of our day, too, especially when the owl delivered our wedding rings. It was so atmospheric.

The ceremonies and everything about our wedding went very smoothly and impressed all of our guests; in fact, to this day, all guests told us that they’d never been to a wedding like ours before!

The Dress: Ami Bridal Couture provided everything for the bride. That involved many elaborate sparkling gowns from a cream fitted dress to magenta and red bejewelled gowns and veils. The photos show the range of beautiful outfits!

The ceremonies and everything about our wedding went very smoothly and impressed all of our guests; in fact, to this day, all guests told us that they’d never been to a wedding like ours before!
— Krishna

The Photographer: It was important that we captured every moment of our day. We were very pleased with our choice – Eye Jogia – who is one of the top six wedding photographers in the world.

Rachel and Rob: Country House Elegance

Hedsor House is the ultimate backdrop for a beautiful country house wedding, and we simply adored Rachel and Rob’s elegant day.

When it came to planning our wedding, we shied away from having a theme as such; Hedsor House is so beautiful that instead we tried to create a feeling of ‘timeless elegance’ throughout the whole day.
— Rachel

From delicate floristry in soft, pastel shades to the graceful string quartet accompanying the ceremony, Rachel and Rob paid attention to the tiniest of details. We hope you’ll agree they created a simply incredible wedding here at Hedsor House.

Here's more about their day at Hedsor, their inspiration and their lasting memories.

"There was no specific colour scheme, but rather everything - from the handmade invitations to the accent colours in the outfits and decoration - were neutral, pastel shades which mirrored the beautiful Georgian-style decor of the house as well as the spring flowers in the stunning grounds.

Our day had quite a traditional feel initially; we had a string quartet for the ceremony music and the groomsmen were in tails, but later on things became more relaxed as we wanted everyone to let their hair down for the reception! After the wedding breakfast we had cocktails in the Sunken Garden and then everyone joined us back in the Centre Hall to dance the night away!

Why Hedsor House?

“We didn't plan to get married in a church so the main criteria for our venue was a beautiful ceremony room where I could imagine myself walking down the aisle... This turned out to be a tall order! After a weekend looking at venues without much success, we arrived at Hedsor House and both knew immediately it would be the perfect setting for our day.

Whilst initially a little apprehensive of the 'blank canvas' approach, we soon realised this presented a fantastic opportunity to plan our perfect wedding. The versatility and flexibility of the house and the accommodating approach of the entire Hedsor team meant that we felt completely at ease throughout the planning process.

Details of the Day

The Food: We chose Caper & Berry, one of Hedsor’s preferred suppliers. It was really important to us that the food was of a high standard and they really delivered on this with a seasonal menu. Their event manager ensured the entire day went to plan, and it was down to them that everything flowed perfectly from start to finish.

The Dress: I wore a dress by British designer Augusta Jones. Initially I thought I would quite like a rather full dress with a long train, but when it came down to it, that sort of style just didn’t suit me. When I saw my dress, I fell in love with its clean, elegant lines and simple design, as well as the luxurious feel of the lace. It also went perfectly with my veil, which my Grandmother lent me to wear on the day; a 60-year old cathedral length, pure silk veil edged with delicate Chantilly lace.

The Flowers: Seventh Heaven provided our flowers, which were seasonal blooms (peonies, roses, gypsophila) in shades of cream and ivory, which we teamed with antique silver candelabras for our centrepieces. We also had two large pedestal arrangements at the entrance to the Centre Hall.

The Photographer: As soon as we saw Mike Garrard’s work it was an easy decision to choose him as our photographer. His pictures are beautiful and really captured the essence of our day; his unique and original style was just what we were looking for.

Your wedding day really is the best day of your life and we would recommend all engaged couples to really make the most of the excitement and anticipation in the run up to the main event; it is a very special time, so just enjoy it!

Vanessa and Kalpesh: Stylish Cultural Fusion

When Vanessa and Kalpesh decided on Hedsor as a wedding venue, they were taken in by the glorious views and the privacy of the estate.

Their wedding was a superb fusion of English traditions and colourful Indian culture, with afternoon tea and an Indian-inspired floral displays. And the wedding featured a fair amount of something both cultures enjoy: dancing ‘til the early hours!

We spoke to Vanessa and Kal to find out more about their special day at Hedsor.

One of the most important things about our wedding day was bringing our two cultures together in our union – I have British heritage and Kal has a British Indian heritage. Many mixed marriages that we had come across had two separate days and we were keen to try and have one day that represented us coming together – this was a tall order as it meant that we would have a jam-packed day with two ceremonies... On the plus side it meant two outfits each!”
— Vanessa

Why Hedsor House?

“When we drove up the long driveway of Hedsor House we were totally blown away. As we looked around the beautiful interior we could really see how we could make our day come to life there – all in one venue. This was not something we had found at other venues where there would be logistical challenges or the layout of the venue would not allow our day to flow smoothly.  What completely sold it for us was the absolutely beautiful Bridal Suite; it is such a beautiful and peaceful space to get ready in. And walking down the gorgeous spiral staircase to your ceremony in the magnificent domed Centre Hall is just so special."

Details of the Day

The Flowers: The flowers were from Hot Flowers and Art, and surpassed all of our expectations. They were a beautiful vibrant hue of autumnal colours. When the bouquets were delivered to the Bridal Suite, it was a perfect moment. I was so pleased, and it really felt like all our plans were coming together!

Get married at Hedsor House! You will not regret it. And for brides – definitely use the lovely Bridal Suite to get ready!
— Vanessa and Kal

The Ceremony: To achieve our goal of representing both of our cultures, we had two ceremonies: a traditional civil ceremony for 80 guests followed by afternoon tea in the Drawing Room, and a Hindu ceremony for 130 guests with a stunning flower-framed Mandap.  We had both ceremonies in the Centre Hall, but both looked completely different. This showed the versatility of Hedsor that we could have two diverse ceremonies in less than four hours! We changed the layout of the room so guests faced the other way for the Hindu ceremony – it was full to the rafters with a really different feeling.  After the Hindu ceremony, our guests enjoyed a Prosecco-fuelled reception while we took a welcome and relaxing break by having our photos taken in the grounds of Hedsor House – all credit to our photographer Tony Hart for making this part of the day special and relaxing.

The Entertainment: Topping off the day of the union of our two cultures was our first dance, which was a traditional ballroom dance topped off by busting into some Bollywood moves! The dance was not at all well-polished by us, but we wanted to create a fun atmosphere for the ensuing disco, which we are told that we did!   We kept the entertainment simple with a DJ, Chintz Garcha from Showcase Weddings. Something our guests (and we!) loved was the sparkly dancefloor that we got to party the night away on. It was perfect to be able to celebrate in style in the same Centre Hall that we had conducted our two ceremonies in earlier in the day. Chintz was great at banging out the tunes that kept a real party atmosphere and a full dancefloor until the very last song! A perfect end to a perfect day.
