Becky and Jamie: A Tale As Old As Time

Just like a Disney story this wedding has to be one of the most fun we have ever had the pleasure of being part of! Becky and Jamie’s special day represented their personalities and the surprises for guests were never ending! Read more about their journey to the big day and prepare to feel like a guest for yourself through their emotion and fun filled photos…

Why Hedsor?

When we first saw Hedsor online, whilst we were searching for venues I knew it was ‘The Place’. When we drove up the beautiful, winding driveway I had goosebumps and when I first laid eyes on Hedsor I knew it was where I wanted to get married. Before we even walked in I’d told Jamie this was it and thankfully he agreed. I think Jennie was quite amused about how excited I was by it all! I think my first words before saying ‘hello’ to her were ‘I can’t wait to get married here.’

What was the first element you planned?

The song I was going to walk down the aisle to. It was an absolute no brainer as it was the song my Mum walked down the aisle to when she married my Dad 30 years ago in 1988 – ‘Also sprach Zarathustra’ by Richard Strauss which was the theme tune to 2001: A Space Odyssey! After Jamie proposed to me in Barbados on Christmas Eve 2017 (and I’d stopped crying / got over the shock!) we saw my family to celebrate and I said to my Dad that I wanted to walk down the aisle to the same song as Mum… he got very teary when I mentioned this so it was an absolute no brainier and it’s such an awesome song!

Waiting by the door as Hannah from Bespoke and the Hedsor team were about to open it on the third ‘dah dah’ of the entrance song and being full of nerves and excitement. Then the moment the doors opened and seeing Jamie I just felt so calm and on cloud nine! When I got to the end of the aisle and they finished the music everyone started whooping and cheering as no one was expecting such a dramatic entrance!

What do you remember the most about the day? It sounds cheesy but how beautiful my wife looked standing next to me at the altar.

The dress: My dress was a bespoke Suzanne Neville gown and the team there were incredible. Lotte and Suzanne made the whole process so fun and I loved every second of the experience. Getting to see my dress all through the design and creation process was so special and when I first put it on when it was finished I couldn’t believe how much it was like what I had envisioned. The corseting they do is just amazing… I really wish I had it in all my clothes!!

The shoes: My shoes were Kate Spade white sparkly flat Keds. They were SO comfy!

The Bridesmaids: My bridesmaids wore burgundy dresses from Maids to Measure. They all had different styles and looked amazing! I also got them little ‘Bridesmaid’ bags from Katie Loxton.

At 11am on the morning of the wedding I realised we didn’t have a sword to cut the cake with, obviously super important(!). Our transport was picking us up at 12 from London to take us to Hedsor. A friend called Ant who was with me said don’t worry I’ll sort it. After phoning 6 antique shops he found one that had a sword for sale that was on route. We stopped off on the way to buy it and somehow ended up with an antique gun as well…!

The Entertainment: Our band consisted of some of Jamie’s friends from when he studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (before his Poker days). Every now and again they get together and perform at friends weddings and they were unbelievable! They’re all incredibly successful in their various fields so it was awesome that they performed such an incredible set for us. Tommy, the lead singer, has the most exceptional voice! Everyone loved what the guys did.

We wanted it to be elegant but fun and to incorporate as much of us and our friends and families as possible. For me it was all about the little details. For Jamie it was all about doing really random stuff… Hannah at Bespoke said he was one of the most fun grooms she worked with which delighted Jamie and terrified me!

I also have to say that the Old Dirty Brasstards who played ‘Also sprach Zarathustra’ as I walked down the aisle were unbelievable. That was the only part I was nervous about in that I’d played it over in my head SO many times and I was worried I’d bigged it up too much. When they guys arrived pre- wedding I was getting my make-up done and Hannah from Bespoke popped in and said they were going to practise. They were set up on the balcony and I have to admit that when we went out and watched them I cried! My Dad was in his room practising his speech and said that when he heard them play it for the first time it bought tears to his eyes thinking about when he saw my Mum for the first time on their wedding day! Needless to say he got very teary when we walked down the aisle. I hope the song will become a family tradition.

The Production: The day to night transformation was incredible. The Bespoke team were honestly amazing and Hannah was fab. We had Bubblegum balloons come in and add some balloons down one of the edges so it looked like they were floating down the balcony and it looked awesome.

I also found a dance instructor 6 months beforehand to choreograph a routine for my groomsman and I. We did it as the beginning of the first dance. We were pretty terrible but had a lot of fun.

Did you face any challenges during planning?

The amazing thing about having a wedding somewhere like Hedsor is the level of support you get. At no point was I worried or concerned about anything and I had been a bit concerned about being a Bridezilla! I organise events at work so I can be a bit controlling but given the team we had working on our wedding there was no need to be remotely stressed. All our suppliers were fantastic and we’ve kept in touch with many of them. We couldn’t have been in better hands!

As part of my ‘details’ obsession we had polaroid pictures printed with everyone’s names on as the place settings. The photo was a picture with either Jamie or I (or both of us) and on the back we wrote a note to each attendee. Getting Jamie to write his cards was a real challenge! I knew it wouldn’t be easy but he really moaned about it! I have to say I am particularly smug that people still talk about how much they loved that touch as it made them appreciate we’d thought about each and every person there!

The Menu by Caper & Berry

The waiting and bar staff were incredible and kept creating us the most fun cocktails and drinks. Andy at Caper & Berry was so much fun to work with, he kept us super chilled on the day and along with Hannah and the wider Hedsor team they made the whole weekend perfect. We really can’t thank them enough.
